Medical Education - Family Practice Residency Program

The Family Practice Residency Program is designed to prepare the resident for a successful career as an osteopathic family physician through academic and clinical participation in a rigorous primary care curriculum.  As one of the first osteopathic programs in the New York area, residents have access to a seasoned faculty with many years of teaching experience in an well-established academic setting.  A hospital-based state-of-the-art Family Health Center with over 35,000 patient visits each year is the center of the continuity of care educational experience.  It is here, in the Family Health Center, that residents manage their individual panel of patients through their training under close faculty supervision.  The diverse patient population provides extraordinary exposure to a variety of pathological and physiologic disease states.  Osteopathic principles are incorporated into all phases of ongoing patient care and bi-weekly osteopathic clinics allow for intensive therapy utilizing manipulation techniques.  Preparation for the ACOFP Board Examination is one essential segment of the program.  An established multidisciplinary medical education framework that includes in-patient teaching services, specialty rotation, daily lectures and community outreach provides necessary didactics for a well-rounded resident experience.
