Peninsula
Hospital Center Podiatric Residency offers a wide variety of pathology and
experience in Podiatric Medicine and Surgery. The curriculum prepares the
resident to deal with prevention, diagnosis and treatment of all conditions
involving the foot and ankle. Our residents develop quality graduate
education leading to eligibility for Board Certification. Residents are
trained in the taking and interpretation of X-rays; prescribing medications;
administering local anesthetics, performing hospital and/or office-based
surgery; performing physical therapy and general history and physical
examinations. All required rotations are on-site at Peninsula Hospital
Center.
Our family practice
rotation highlights systemic illnesses and disorders that are initially
manifested in the foot and lower extremity, where the Podiatrist is
frequently the first health care provider. Residents are taught to
recognize and refer, when necessary, those patients requiring immediate
and/or long-term health care. Residents are exposed to an array of medical
and surgical procedures as part of the scope of practice of podiatric
medicine. Our residency program provides exposure to Emergency Room,
trauma, diabetic wound care and limb salvage; pediatric and geriatric care,
podiatric surgery, sports medicine as well as office and practice
management.
This Podiatric
Residency Program is an extremely well-rounded program. The institution
provides skilled and qualified faculty )with emphasis on supervision of the
residents’ “hands on” experience) to deliver the educational program.
Completion of the Podiatric Residency Program will produce a highly trained,
highly skilled and well-rounded Podiatrist. Graduates are also assisted
with job placement.
